5/30/24 Ted Postol on How the US is Helping Ukraine Strike Russia’s Early Warning System
Scott is joined by Ted Postol of MIT to discuss the danger of recent Ukrainian strikes on parts of Russia’s early warning system. Postol explains why satellite limitations make Russia dependent on ground radar systems to detect incoming nuclear-armed missiles. He and Scott then discuss the stupidity of helping Ukraine damage the one thing that can help the Russians confirm they are not under nuclear attack.
Discussed on the show:
- “Russia’s Antiquated Nuclear Warning System Jeopardizes Us All” (Washington Monthly)
Ted Postol is a professor emeritus of Science, Technology, and International Security at MIT. He has written about nuclear weapons issues and the chemical attacks in Syria.

2/15/19 Ali Abunimah on the Israel Lobby’s Double Standard
Ali Abunimah comments on the recent controversy surrounding Minnesota’s Representative Ilhan Omar and her tweets about the Israel lobby’s influence in American politics. Unlike virtually any other lobby, explains Abunimah, AIPAC seems to be off limits in the public discourse. Even after fairly mild comments, like Omar’s, the outrage runs rampant and backtracking and apologies are demanded. Scott and Abunimah wish Omar would have stuck to her guns instead.
Discussed on the show:
- “Ilhan Omar under attack for telling truth about Israel lobby” (The Electronic Intifada)
- “Rep. Ilhan Omar vs. Venezuela Envoy Elliott Abrams: Was El Salvador “Massacre” A “Fabulous Achievement?” | Video” (RealClearPolitics)

2/8/19 Philip Weiss on the Democratic Split over Zionism
Philip Weiss talks about the opposing camps of the democratic party, one that’s close with the Zionist Israel lobby, and the other, younger one that views the plight of the Palestinians as a civil rights issue echoing America’s own. Most American Jews support a two state solution and equal rights for Palestinians, says Weiss, so it may be hard for liberal Zionists to continue winning political support in the future.
