Daniel McAdams at LRC:

“(Washington, D.C.) In a stunning and dramatic move, the former organ of the Beltway neo-conservatives, The Washington Times, has switched sides in the Global War on Terrorism and has thrown its lot in with the violent jihadists. The shift was evidenced in an advertisement printed on page A-7 of today’s edition by the terrorist organization known as the Iranian Mujahedeen-e Khalq (MeK).In agreeing to print an advertisement urging Washington support for the MeK, listed by the State Department as a global terrorist organization, The Washington Times apparently has thrown its lot behind terrorism and has spit in the face of President Bush’s promise to “…direct every resource at our command, every means of diplomacy, every tool of intelligence, every instrument of law enforcement, every financial influence and every necessary weapon of war, to the disruption and defeat of the global terror network.”

The bill of particulars on the Mujahedeen-e Khalq marks it as one of the most dangerous and adaptable terrorist groups on earth. A bizarre mix of radical Islam and Marxism, this group has brutally murdered American citizens, was a major force behind the 1979 revolution in Iran which installed theocratic rule in that country, has killed hundreds in its home country in dozens of terrorist attacks. In the 1980s, the MeK lined up behind Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, providing valuable assistance to the former Iraqi leader, who now faces a death sentence for murder, in Hussein’s brutal crackdown on Kurdish separatists.

More recently, MeK terrorist training camps in northern Iraq were bombed by Coalition forced during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

There is no word on whether the (in)Justice Department plans to move against The Washington Times for allowing itself to be used as a mouthpiece for one of the world’s most dangerous terrorist organizations.”
