Nate on September 28, 2007 at 1:07 pm Here’s what people can do to stop the next war…fucking Revolt if Congress refuses to actually DECLARE war. SteveC on September 28, 2007 at 1:12 pm You seem to like Dylan’s Masters of War…surprised you didn’t know about it years ago. I think you’ll like Chumbawumbas “Jacobs Ladder” as well…. There’s 2 versions, the latter modified with lyrics to fit Gulf War II. darin on September 28, 2007 at 1:19 pm i speant all mornin on the road with a couple navy & an airman. theyve all been to iraq & liked it. theres a bunch that love this war shit & thrill off of the lies. its an us & them mentallity just like the cops. ‘we’, the opposition to lies & deceit, amount to the whiners in the corner hoping the tough guys dont come kick our asses. the tables need to be turned to make the dominant the submissive. tyrants for peace, repeal! Curt on September 28, 2007 at 1:26 pm Scott, Please post Gareth Porter interview. Thank you and OKAY! 🙂 peter saker on September 28, 2007 at 2:37 pm darin is probably right. I used to talk to people about aspects of war, particularly strategic bombing, that were premeditated murder of civilians, and evil under what I thought were generally acceptable society. But now I realize that I was foolish to think that they don’t know. Like the religious people that I know that flatly say the don’t want to have this discussion, or others that make excuses so lame that they must know it. So thats the reality. They know. I’m not telling anybody anything they don’t know. We are a warrior culture that will kill whoever the state says is our enemy, civilians and all, without resource, until they either surrender in abject supplication, or are the males are dead. We are complete barbarians without much right to complain about BinLadin’s ruthless conduct, because we are him, except he has the excuse that we invaded his country. In Russia, people saw what was going on in the gulags, and said – If only comrade Stalin knew, he would stop – this or that thing observed. They seem like fools now, but no more so than I. In the movie Casualties of War, the Michael Fox character goes to his CEO, thinking if only the commander knew what the did, there would be justice, cause this ain’t the army, but the commander, it turns out, knew and didn’t care. Well in the movie, justice prevails, but this ain’t no movie. Our national culture is so soaked in the heady wine of thinking vengeance is ours with a mandate from God I suppose, that I have officially given up assuming “if they only knew”. What a dope. Gregory Purcell on September 28, 2007 at 5:58 pm hey check out the last 10 seconds of this video of the African American issue GOP debate guess what the crowed is chanting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHZREP1WP_U darin on September 29, 2007 at 7:47 am started thinkin, the m16 did have major jam issues which is why they put a plunger on the side of it & ended up calling it the ar15. the m16 is a piece of shit crappy bullets or not. i had shotgun shells left on the counter in the bathroom for many years that still worked. most guns dont come with cleaning kits or need to constantly be cleaned, the m16 does. ohforpeatsaker on September 29, 2007 at 8:17 am the formal excuse about the m16 was that the ar15, from which it descended, was designed to work with ammunition with rod shaped particles, and the millitary decided, more or last at the last second, to use ball powder, with greater power, which increased the cyclic rate of fire, but it caused fouling and the greater rate of fire caused the whole contraption to operate at the edge of jamming as well. So, in vietnam, they moved back to stick powder and the extreme jamming issues stopped, but probably left a residual failure rate in place due to other systemic design issues. Scott on September 29, 2007 at 9:36 am Gregory, This is the article I mentioned when you called in the other day: http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig8/baldwin1.html Gregory Purcell on September 29, 2007 at 11:31 am “Let every soul be subject unto the [U.S. Constitution.]†Brilliant, stand that argument on its head. Scot you should read Jesus Is an Anarchist (A free-market/libertarian anarchist, that is–otherwise what is called an anarcho-capitalist.) by James Redford http://www.anti-state.com/redford/redford4.html Redford deals with Roman 13 But in actual fact Paul never does tell us in above excerpt from Romans 13 to submit to government!–at least certainly not as they have existed on Earth and are operated by men. In fact, Paul would be an outright, boldfaced hypocrite were he to command anyone to do such a thing: for Paul himself did not submit to government, and if he had then he would not even have been alive to be able to write Romans 13.… Indeed, ever since Paul’s conversion to Jesus Christ, he spent the rest of his entire life in rebellion against mortal governments, and would at last–just as with Jesus before him–be executed by government, in this case by having his head chopped off. Paul was continuously in and out of prisons throughout his entire ministry for preaching the gospel of Christ; he was lashed with stripes 39 times by the “authorities” for preaching Christ; he was beaten with rods by the “authorities” for preaching Christ; and none of these rebellions of his did he ever disavow: indeed he cited them all as evidence of his commitment to Jesus (again, see 2 Cor. 12:22-33)! ….this is another ingenious case of rhetorical misdirection. Paul was counting on the fact that most people who would be hostile to the Christian church–the Roman “authorities” in particular–would, upon reading Romans 13, naturally interpret it from the point of view of legal positivism: i.e., that such people would take for granted that the “governing authorities” and “rulers” spoken of must refer to the men who operate the governments on Earth. But never does Paul anywhere say that this is so! (Legal positivism is the doctrine that whichever gang is best able to overpower others with arms and might and thereby subjugate the populace and who then proceed to proclaim themselves the “authority” are on that account the rightful “Authority.”) Gregory Purcell on September 29, 2007 at 11:47 am But if you want to have a theologian on I say you should get yourself a red letter Fundamentalist, their theology is so simple it is hard to dispute. They have a red letter bible and anything which is suppose to be a direct quote of Jesus Christ is in Red letters. the thought being what Jesus actually said is the most important part of the bible These guys are bible thumping fundamentalist antiwar christans. http://www.beliefnet.com/story/185/story_18562_1.html http://www.sojo.net/index.cfm?action=about_us.redletterchristians http://www.tonycampolo.org/contact.php Paul on September 29, 2007 at 12:21 pm Gregory, Regarding taxes, didn’t Christ say render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s and render unto God what is God’s? Gregory Purcell on September 29, 2007 at 2:06 pm Paul Yes he did I took it to mean a call for the separation of church and state but that could be me reading into the verse what I want to see.. but he also said Tax collectors are sinners Matthew 9:9-13: As Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, “Follow Me.” So he arose and followed Him. Now it happened, as Jesus sat at the table in the house, that behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Him and His disciples. And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” When Jesus heard that, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.” (See also Mark 2:14-17; Luke 5:27-32.) Paul on September 29, 2007 at 3:58 pm Gregory, Matt.22:17″Is it lawful to give a poll tax to Caesar or not?” Christ,”Show me the coin used for the poll tax. Whose likeness and inscription is upon it? vs.18 & 19 Matt. 22:21 Christ,”Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s…” SteveC on September 29, 2007 at 5:12 pm I went to the head during Friday’s show…also ate an omlette the wife made…..(so I mighta missed it)…but No mention about the “Hate Crimes/Hate Speech” (Ted Kennedy Bill) which passed the Senate…..Your not some kinda Stealth funded libertarian gatekeeper are ya……Come to think of it….haven’t heard you talk a loy about the “Fainess Doctrime” either…… Kidding aside…..If you ever want to get into the Fairness Doctrine, Nat Hentoff would be a Good Guest.
