5/21/22 Hassan El-Tayyab: Now Is the Time to End the War in Yemen
Hassan El-Tayyab of the Friends Committee on National Legislation joins Scott on Antiwar Radio to discuss the effort to end the war in Yemen. Both sides have agreed to a ceasefire which has brought the level of violence down and the access to food and commerce up. But the ceasefire is scheduled to end on June 2nd. Scott and El-Tayyab hope that when that day comes, the two sides will agree to continue the peace. However, the full withdrawal of U.S. support would go much further to bring this brutal conflict to an end. El-Tayyab details the effort of both Left and Right activists to pressure congress to end the war and explains how you can help.

09/16/11 – Michael Scheuer – The Scott Horton Show
This interview was broadcast on KPFK 90.7 FM Los Angeles on September 16th.
Michael Scheuer, 22-year veteran of the CIA and former head analyst at the CIA’s bin Laden unit, discusses why Ron Paul is right on foreign policy and Rick Santorum is a “gasbag;” how US military occupations and support for Israel and autocratic Arab governments radicalize Muslims in a way our “degenerate” culture fails to; why the 9/11 Commission report is a whitewash; how the Bush and Obama administrations fulfilled Osama bin Laden’s goals for him; why the war of civilizations (if it happens) should be labeled “made by the Ivy League;” why Arab Spring reformist governments need to worry if the US will let them remain in power or not; and why US government officials act like the heirs of the French Revolution when they travel the world, spreading democracy at the barrel of a gun.

09/15/11 – Kevin Zeese – The Scott Horton Show
Kevin Zeese, Executive Director of VotersForPeace and Co-Chair of Come Home America, discusses Come Home America’s tripartite approach to building a successful, broad-based antiwar movement; the notable signatories from all over the political spectrum who have signed the letter urging President Obama and the Congress to end the wars right now; why war is good for the economy – if you happen to own a bank or Lockheed Martin; Obama’s fundraising events that cost more for admission than the average American earns in a year; and why the peace movement needs to shatter the perception carried forward from the Vietnam-era, that only leftist hippies too lazy and cowardly to fight would oppose war.

09/15/11 – Dean Ahmad – The Scott Horton Show
Imad-ad-Dean Ahmad, founder of the Minaret of Freedom Institute, discusses the differences and commonalities of the three major Abrahamic religions; why Islam’s theological distinctions don’t make all Muslims into budding terrorists – despite what the Islamophobes would have you believe; the many Muslims (devout and secular alike) participating in the Arab spring movement against despotic governments – nearly all supported by the US and Israel; how Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri developed an expanded version of the Five Pillars of Islam, to include a militarized conception of jihad; and why American Muslims cherish the “land of opportunity” and certainly don’t “hate us for our [and their] freedoms.”

09/15/11 – Kelley B. Vlahos – The Scott Horton Show
Kelley B. Vlahos, featured Antiwar.com columnist and contributing editor for The American Conservative magazine, discusses her article “Surge Finally Getting a Second Look?” about the dawning realization in military circles that David Petraeus is a stuffed shirt and the Iraq surge didn’t really work; how the “surge” fiction was packaged and sold as a comprehensive COIN strategy (not surprisingly a failure as well); why the media will eventually realize that, since Iraq and Afghanistan are total disasters, it makes no sense to praise Petraeus for his supposed “successes;” and why Americans weren’t paying close enough attention to discriminate between correlation (the “surge” and a decline in Iraq violence) and causation (the successful Shiite purge of Sunnis from contested areas).

09/14/11 – Chris Floyd – The Scott Horton Show
Chris Floyd, author of Empire Burlesque – High Crimes and Low Comedy in the Bush Imperium, discusses his article “What Lies Beneath: The Essence of Modern America in Somalia’s Blood-drenched Soil;” the US “dual track policy” of simultaneously funding the weak central government and the warlords – guaranteeing some influence no matter who carries the day; how imperial hubris has convinced American politicians they have the right to decide who is and isn’t suitable to rule Somalia; and a reminder that American lives are no more important than Somali lives (which should give us pause, as over 100,000 have been needlessly killed).

09/14/11 – Richard Silverstein – The Scott Horton Show
Richard Silverstein, writer of the Tikun Olam blog, discusses his article “Secret trial revelations prompt US-Israeli diplomatic storm” about the Israeli agenda revealed by FBI translator and whistleblower Shamai Leibowitz; why a DOJ prosecution should be anticipated, despite the First Amendment protection of journalists publishing classified information; why government employees interested in protecting the US should be prepared to pay a steep price for patriotism; how the media spun the story as “US spies on Israel!” while saving the actual content for later paragraphs; how Israel manages to control Congress and run US Middle East foreign policy; how the Israeli government gets op-eds published in American newspapers and starts lawsuits against American companies boycotting Israel’s goods; and why there was likely a deal between Obama’s electoral transition team and Israel to stop Operation Cast Lead two days before the inauguration.

09/14/11 – Mark Sheffield – The Scott Horton Show
Mark Sheffield of the Policy on Point blog discusses his post “Arab Spring, Israeli Fall;” how Hosni Mubarak’s departure has freed Egyptians to protest against Palestinian mistreatment; the Obama administration’s demand that Egypt crack down on protesters, making it clear democracy won’t be tolerated if it is used to criticize Israel; why the rift between Turkey and Israel, the major regional powers and former close allies, is a big deal; and indications that US pro-Israel policy is getting increasingly more costly in terms of alliances and influence.

James Bamford, author of The Shadow Factory: The Ultra-Secret NSA from 9/11 to the Eavesdropping on America, discusses his article “Post-September 11, NSA ‘enemies’ include us” at Politico.com; the continuing debate on “why they hate us,” exemplified by the Ron Paul/Rick Santorum debate; how the US took Osama bin Laden’s bait by rushing into the Afghan quagmire and bleeding the empire dry; and how digital communications have expanded NSA capabilities exponentially in the last few decades while protections against abuse have been gutted by the Bush and Obama administrations.
