by TOM ENGELHARDT The Nation Recently, the Federal Election Commission released its July quarterly figures on contributions to presidential candidates--and Congressman Ron Paul f Texas modestly made the news because the libertarian candidate managed to pull in more money than that military icon (and war supporter) Senator John McCain for the quarter and so slipped into third place in the Republican presidential dollars sweepstakes. Since Paul garners but 2 to 3 percent of the vote in recent...

Due to the fact that my DSL modem has taken leave of its functionality, I will be offline until Monday at the earliest. By early next week, I'll be back online. Until then, I'd ask all authors to please check the spam queue and release any legitimate comments.
Here, this’ll get a chuckle outta ya.

Youtube help
Say, techie genius types, My boss Eric Garris has himself one a them bad ass digital recorder jammers for his TV. He wants me to tell him how to get the signal to his computer so he can youtube stuff from his dvr. The only way I know is to get a video card with a cable input and then get a program and play the whole thing and record it into the computer with one a them programs from download.com, but he says there's all kinda plugs out of the dvr and so I'm wondering if there's a way to just...
Richard Stallman on Copyrights
This talk was delivered recently at the University of Waterloo. It is entitled "Copyright vs Community in the Age of Computer Networks". I haven't heard the talk yet, but from the "Abstract" text, I would probably go much further than Stallman would. I don't concede that copyright (or patent, or any "Intellectual Property") was ever necessary, and always represents a state-granted monopoly over ideas, enforced by State violence. Robert A. Taft’s Ron Paul Moment
From David Beito at Liberty and Power: As media and political elites continue to demonize Ron Paul for his comments in the debates, it is remembering that another candidate, who said much the same thing, once came within a hair of winning the Republican presidential nomination. In 1950, Senator Robert A. Taft of Ohio firmly explained to dumbfounded interviewers on ‘Meet the Press’ why he opposed sending more U.S. troops to Europe. He condemned the deployment as encirclement and warned that it...
