Bravo! stevec on June 1, 2008 at 12:22 am 1 – 10 scale…. 9 on lyrics… 3 on vocals…. Advice…. Get a doe eyed vixen to sing it (ala Fiona Apple)…. It may get some traction that way…. Anthony Gregory on June 1, 2008 at 1:37 am “Advice…. Get a doe eyed vixen to sing it (ala Fiona Apple)…. It may get some traction that way….” Yes, this isn’t my best vocal performance, though I like it. It was live at Berkeley’s famous Freight and Salvage. Anyone’s allowed to sing my songs, of course. Intellectual property is a crock. stevec on June 1, 2008 at 2:09 am Heard Tears for Fears “MAD WORLD” recently and its given me the urge to see the extended Directors Cut of Donnie Darko…. I think you’ll like the song if your not familiar with it…… For the longest time I thought it was REM….. http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=MAD+WORLD&hl=En&sitesearch=# stevec on June 1, 2008 at 2:11 am Check out the Gary Jules version….. This is the one used on DONNIE DARKO…… stevec on June 1, 2008 at 2:22 am AG: Are you familiar w/ Phil Och’s Antiwar anthem “I AINT MARCHING ANYMORE?”…. Trying to get Scott to put that into his bumper music mix. Oscar Goldman on June 1, 2008 at 6:38 am This is a great song! What are the chords? Can you post the lyrics? (Sounds like one of those Em folk dirges.) I think this has power in its raw form, sung by you…. or in an arrangement with a cello, a couple of fifes, a stand up bass, backing female vocal, jazz drum kit with brush, and a Jeff Beck style guitar solo. Vocals are good too. There is nothing wrong with your voice. As a contrast in technique, have you ever thought of doing a song with really dark lyrics, but understating the lyrical content with lighter or jazzier (i.e., open tunings a la Joni Mitchell) sounding chords? Anders on June 1, 2008 at 10:30 am Hey, good stuff, great video too Mudshark, great Lyrics. I play a bit of acoustic myself, heres one of my efforts, although i can’t claim to have written this one 😀 . Keith Halderman on June 1, 2008 at 1:17 pm Great song and video if it was widely played it would be a big hit. I also like the dedication Smedley Butler was a hero. Bob Bogus on June 1, 2008 at 3:44 pm A 3? Dang, stevec yer tough and yer gonna be known as Simon of the Stressblog. I think Anthony otta go on Amerikan Idol. Bob Bogus on June 1, 2008 at 3:57 pm Anthony could sing libertarian songs on Amerikan Idol and wake up the sheeple. Although in a society where the obvious is invisible to the masses ya never know. They may just cackle at him like Ghouliania did to Ron Paul. mudshark on June 1, 2008 at 4:05 pm Thanks, TC. glad you liked it. After hearing the song, I could tell that Anthony put a great deal of himself into it and that it needed to be heard by more than just persons that read libertarian blogs. Once I got the effects filters figured out, I don’t think it turned out too bad for my first video. Anthony Gregory on June 1, 2008 at 4:18 pm steve, I love that song, as well as “Draft Dodger Rag,” and the song version of “The Highwayman.” Ochs is wonderful. Oscar, thanks! Chords are Am C G Am F G Am, ad infinitum. My band plays it with rock trio instruments. Don’t know how the recording will be. I write all kinds of songs. Not the best quality, but there are hundreds of free mp3s at my band’s website: http://www.melatones.com Anders, thanks, and great stuff! Bob, I’m not nor ever will be good enough for Idol, at what Idol singers are good at. (Though last time, the one I rooted for lost.) mudshark, thanks again for everything. This was a great honor. mudshark on June 1, 2008 at 4:32 pm Thank you, Anders. I finally got around to loading up my other drive with a version of TinyXP so I could check out some of this software I had laying around. ; ) Good job on the Lennon cover, too. Wish I had something to share in return, but in the thirty five years of meddling with assorted variations of strings, I failed to record any of it. maybe I can get around to doing that in the near future also. mudshark on June 1, 2008 at 4:49 pm no problem, Anthony. the deference is all mine. don’t let it get away from you, or should I say – you from it, like I did.
