America’s Public Enemy #1: al Qaeda or the PKK?

Here’s a little piece of information that never made it into the news: after 9/11, the FBI, at the behest of the State Department, which itself was acting at the behest of the government of Turkey, rounded up PKK supporters in the U.S. for deportation. This should not be entirely surprising since Turkey was seen at the time as a crucial ally in the ‘war on terror’. Might the U.S. want to throw a few favors the Turks way in turn for their cooperation on other fronts? Of course they would: these are the dirty deals that go on behind the scenes, which we would never know about were it not for brave patriots like Sibel Edmonds (Sibel reported this tidbit to the Justice Department’s Inspector General back in 2002. But now we fast forward 6 years later and get this update from our Commander-in Chief. “THE Bush Administration is considering air strikes, including cruise missiles, against the Kurdish rebel group PKK in northern Iraq.”The is not content to kick out the PKK sympathizers in the U.S and provide weapons and intelligence for Turkey’s war against the Kurds. It seems America is willing to insert itself directly in the conflict in order to prevent Turkey from invading northern Iraq aka Southern Kurdistan. The bigger this mess gets, the more one thinks the only vote that counts in the Presidential Primaries is the one for the most viable and vocal antiwar candidate currently in the race.
