Chris Floyd on Justin’s article “Russia’s Fifth Column“:
“Raimondo is … correct in his observation that the reason Putin is now attracting continuous criticism from the lords of the West has nothing to do with the very real contraction of democracy and increasing authoritarianism in Russia. This has been going on since the beginning of Putin’s rule, back in the days when George W. Bush was mooning over Vlad’s soulful eyes. Bush and his gang have actually been following Putin’s lead in restricting liberty, imposing authoritarian rule, intimidating the press, and manipulating the electoral system in an attempt to create a one-party state. They have no problem at all with Putin’s domestic repression.
“What they object to is Putin’s increasing defiance of American hegemony in world affairs, and the potential for Russia to become the locus of a new “pole” of global power, ending the “unipolar world” of unchallenged American dominance. They also don’t like Putin’s refusal to turn over the entire Russian oil industry to the Bush Regime’s energy baron cronies.”
