6/17/22 Douglas Macgregor on the Lies Getting Ukrainians Killed
Scott is joined by retired Col. Douglas Macgregor to discuss an article he wrote about the war in Ukraine. Macgregor points to the lies that got us into a situation earlier this year where a Russian invasion was inevitable and the lies that are allowing the war to grind on. He goes through how the Russian goal has shifted from one of Ukrainian neutrality to one of Russian annexation. Macgregor says there’s no going back to a Donbas region without Russian troops. The question now is: how do we end the fighting?
Discussed on the show:

- “When the secretaries of Defense and State said publicly the U.S. wants Ukraine to win and weaken Russia, Biden said tone it down” (NBC News)

Hassan El-Tayyab came back on Antiwar Radio to give an update on the effort to end the war in Yemen. First, Scott and El-Tayyab discuss the last-minute extension of the two-month ceasefire. El-Tayyab reports that airstrikes have stopped completely and crucial fuel supplies have finally been allowed into the country. That said, there has still been some difficulty getting medicine in, although relief teams are working on the issue. They then turn to Congress, where some resolutions invoking the War Powers Act are gaining momentum. El-Tayyab shares some resources that can help you press your representatives to pass legislation that would make this ceasefire permanent.

6/3/22 Tom Secker on the Pentagon’s Control Over Top Gun: Maverick
Scott interviewed British journalist Tom Secker about the Pentagon’s role in producing Top Gun: Maverick. The Department of Defense has an entire office set up to work with Hollywood. They give producers access to some military personnel as well as equipment in exchange for the final say over the script. Secker has gone through many documents over the years to find exactly what the military has changed in popular films. But with the Top Gun movies, the relationship is on a whole other level. Secker lays out the history of the first film, the sequel that got scrapped after the Pentagon pulled out in the 90s, and the eventual production of Top Gun: Maverick. Both Scott and Secker point out that they don’t have a problem with action movies like this being made, just that the military hijacks film productions in order to boost its reputation far beyond what it deserves.
Discussed on the show:

- “Why does the Pentagon give a helping hand to films like ‘Top Gun’?” (Los Angeles Times)

5/25/22 Mark Thornton on Paper Money, Housing Bubbles and Free Trade
Scott is joined by Mark Thornton, Senior Fellow at the Mises Institute, to discuss an article he wrote recently on the current housing bubble. They begin by discussing the damage that unbacked government-managed paper money does to the United States and the world. They relate that back to our current economic situation where we are feeling the effects of the enormous monetary expansion the Fed unleashed in 2020. Next, they turn to housing where Thornton, who was an early observer of the housing bubble that crashed in 2007, explains how that bubble has evolved into what we have today. Lastly, they discuss the virtues of free trade and the problems with government-run “free trade blocs.”

5/21/22 Hassan El-Tayyab: Now Is the Time to End the War in Yemen
Hassan El-Tayyab of the Friends Committee on National Legislation joins Scott on Antiwar Radio to discuss the effort to end the war in Yemen. Both sides have agreed to a ceasefire which has brought the level of violence down and the access to food and commerce up. But the ceasefire is scheduled to end on June 2nd. Scott and El-Tayyab hope that when that day comes, the two sides will agree to continue the peace. However, the full withdrawal of U.S. support would go much further to bring this brutal conflict to an end. El-Tayyab details the effort of both Left and Right activists to pressure congress to end the war and explains how you can help.
