3/24/23 Ryan McMaken on Nuclear Weapons and How the Fed Fuels Inequality

Download Episode.

Scott is joined by Ryan McMaken of the Mises Institute to talk about nuclear weapons and the boom-bust cycle. They begin with a discussion of McMaken’s recent article pushing back against common arguments for the production of more nuclear weapons. McMaken argues that, even if you accept the premise that we need nuclear weapons for deterrence, it does not follow that we need thousands of them. They then move on to the economy. They first dig into what’s actually behind today’s inflation and looming recession. That leads to a broader discussion about why some of the most important goods and services, like housing and healthcare, are growing more expensive.

3/24/23 Ted Snider on the Rapidly Changing World Order

Download Episode.

Scott is joined by Ted Snider to talk about the real-time shift we are living through from a unipolar order dominated by Washington to a multipolar world where different blocs engage on more equal footing. They start with the war in Ukraine where western officials are doubling down on some of the choices that have thrown Eastern Europe into chaos in the first place. They then zoom out and examine how Washington’s recent foreign policy has driven Russia and China closer together. Download Episode.

Scott talks with Trita Parsi about an op-ed he wrote in the New York Times on the Saudi-Iranian agreement to reestablish diplomatic ties. Although the agreement does not mark an end to the rivalry between the two governments, it did establish a way to manage that rivalry with words. 3/24/23 Dan McKnight on Defend the Guard’s Victory in Arizona and How You Can Help Keep the Momentum Going This Monday

Download Episode.

Dan McKnight returns to the show to talk about Defend the Guard’s recent success in Arizona and how you can help bring about another victory this Monday in Texas. Defend the Guard is state-level legislation that bars Congress from deploying National Guard troops to foreign combat operations unless war is formally declared. In other words, it forces Congress to abide by the Constitution. McKnight lays the groundwork for where the fight stands right now after a victory in the Arizona Senate. Scott and McKnight then call for all listeners from Texas, or anyone who has friends or family in Texas, to take part in a phone bank operation this Monday, March 27th. McKnight provides the details on how you can get involved. Then, at the end, Scott plays the recording of his statement from the Defend the Guard hearing in Maine last Monday.

3/17/23 Kit Klarenberg on the Georgia Uprisings and the National Endowment for Democracy

Download Episode.

Kit Klarenberg is back to provide some important context for the uprisings in Georgia. They start with the Eastern European country’s transition after the fall of the Soviet Union and the influence that the U.S. has enjoyed there since. That brings them to the recently proposed legislation that would have required Georgian organizations to disclose funding from any foreign governments. The proposal was met with sharp condemnation from Western officials who labeled it a threat to the Georgian people’s ability to fulfill their own economic and social aspirations. Scott and Klarenberg talk about how ludicrous this assertion is and pull back the curtain on what really explains the protests that erupted as a result.
