11/9/23 Ted Snider: Ukraine Would Have Fared Better Without Washington
Ted Snider joined Scott on Antiwar Radio this week to discuss the war in Ukraine. Snider explains that we now know that early on, both Ukraine and Russia were willing to stop the fighting and work things out peacefully. But the U.S. put a stop to the talks and urged Ukraine to fight. Now Ukraine has suffered heavy casualties, blown through its defensive resources and lost territory its own generals say they’ll never win back. Snider berates U.S. officials for putting Ukraine in this position and argues that negotiations must start now before Ukraine needlessly loses even more.

Scott talks with Israeli journalist Meron Rapoport about Netanyahu’s policy to prop up Hamas and the broader political ramifications of the current escalation. They begin by working through the history of the Israeli strategy to keep Hamas in power in an attempt to discredit the Palestinian Authority and pro-Palestinian advocates more broadly. Scott then asks Rapoport about the current geopolitical dynamic in the region and the political dynamic within Israel after the attacks. They end with some predictions about the impending invasion and the fate of Netanyahu.

Scott interviews Arik Horowitz, who lives about thirty miles from Gaza, about how things are in Israel right now. He explains that the current consensus among Israelis is that Gaza must be leveled. But Horowitz attacks the common assumption underlying this consensus that indiscriminate bombings and total war are the only options for fighting Hamas. He instead calls for a ceasefire to contain the violence.
