For those of you who saw the Sept. 11 debate between Popular Mechanics and Dylan Avery and his researcher on Amy Goodman’s show, here’s a quick HOWTO on viewing the extremely popular 9/11 conspiracy doc Loose Change. FIrst, download the flick using this torrent. I have confirmed it contains two high quality movie files (one is called “extra footage”). If you don’t know how to download a torrent, install Azureus. The torrent you downloaded will now open with it by default. Azureus will do all of the work for you (make sure you know where the hell Az is downloading the file to). The swarm is going quite fast, this being a popular file, so it shouldn’t take too terribly long to finish, providing that you have a broadband internet connection. If, after the torrent finishes, you can’t watch the movie — no sound/video, for instance — then you have two perfectly good options. One, install and use Videolan (VLC). Two, install the K-Lite Codec Pack (any version). The latter option will allow any of your media players to play the files, while the former will only provide functionality to VLC. To summarize, for e-luddites, in simple steps:
1. Click this link and open the file with your torrent program. If you don’t have a torrent program, complete step 2 first.
2. Download and install Azureus. Az is a Java program, so if you don’t have the Java Runtime Environment installed, you’ll have to put that there first.
3. Wait for the download to complete.
4. Try to play the file. If it doesn’t play correctly, proceed to step 5.
5. Download and install one or both of these programs: Videolan; K-Lite Codec Pack.
FYI: Avery, the writer/director/narrator encourages downloading, so this doesn’t violate copyright. This Second Edition is a definite improvement over the first. It contains much more information, especially about Flight 93 — the goddam thing landed in Cleveland — than the first edition. It’s also about 20 minutes longer. I just wish the guys would stop drawing definite conclusions – “The cell phone calls were fake”, and stick to asking questions, which is the purpose of art.
