Malalai Joya will be on to discuss Afghanistan, human rights, and life in war-torn Afghanistan
Bio: Joya Is a former Parliamentarian in the National Assembly of Afghanistan (2005-2007), peace activist and writer. She is a vocal critic of the Karzai administration and its western supporters, specifically the United States. Joya was named one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world for 2010. On May 7, 2006, Malalai Joya was physically and verbally attacked by fellow members of parliament after accusing several colleagues of being “warlords” and unfit for service in the new Afghan government.
She was subsequently suspended by members of the Wolesi Jirga from the legislature. She has gained international support from prominent individuals who have demanded her reinstatement. She is currently in the United States on a speaking tour.

Peter Hart will be on the show today to sort out what Richard Goldstone’s Washington Post op-ed really meant. Goldstone investigated allegations of war crimes by Israel in Gaza. His finale report, formally titled The United Nations Fact Finding Mission on the Gaza Conflict (it is most commonly called the Goldstone Report) found Israel to have committed serious crimes, especially against civilians. Goldstone authored an Op-Ed last week that ran in the Washington Post that was seen by many as a retraction of his original allegations. Peter Hart will explain what Goldstone actually said vs. what has been largely misrepresented by the media. Read Peter’s piece here.
