Get your David Rees On!

For those of you who have never been there, 'Get Your War On' was the creation of David Rees around the time of our invasion of Afganistan. At a time people where unwilling or able to speak out using satire, he stood tall. By using generic clip art and biting humor he drilled holes into the masses and the administration. Warning: Profanity. It started here. The latest is here. Here's a video presentation he recently gave at Columbia Universty: See it here.

A Ton of Stuff

From the headlines at Antiwar.com, Seymour Hersh does the NSA in the New Yorker, Listening In: "A security consultant working with a major telecommunications carrier told me that his client set up a top-secret high-speed circuit between its main computer complex and Quantico, Virginia, the site of a government-intelligence computer center. This link provided direct access to the carrier

EFF Wants Court to Release AT&T/NSA Documents

From Wired: "A file detailing aspects of AT&T's alleged participation in the National Security Agency's warrantless domestic wiretap operation is sitting in a San Francisco courthouse. But the public cannot see it because, at AT&T's insistence, it remains under seal in court records. The judge in the case has so far denied requests from the Electronic Frontier Foundation, or EFF, and several news organizations to unseal the documents and make them public. AT&T claims information in the file is...

1 in 136 U.S. Residents Behind Bars

Makes me sick. Prisons and jails added more than 1,000 inmates each week for a year, putting almost 2.2 million people, or one in every 136 U.S. residents, behind bars by last summer. The total on June 30, 2005, was 56,428 more than at the same time in 2004, the government reported Sunday. That 2.6 percent increase from mid-2004 to mid-2005 translates into a weekly rise of 1,085 inmates. Of particular note was the gain of 33,539 inmates in jails, the largest increase since 1997, researcher...

Hayden Tells US What We Already Know

Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Feith etc. lied us into a disasterous war. Says William Arkin: It was in particular his response to questions about his criticism of the intelligence shop set up by Under Secretary of Defense Douglas Feith, though, where Hayden provided a glimmer of insight and hope about a better future. Feith

Bombing Iran in Four Easy Steps

Retired Colonel Sam Gardiner lays it out for Steve Soto at the Left Coaster: "I. Period of Building Pressure: This could be 60 days or even six months in which the US and European leaders continue to talk to their publics on the failure of the Iranians to comply with "the wishes of the international community." There will be talk and work on sanctions but those, will be for the purpose of building US and international support; they will not be done with any hope of changing Iranian behavior....

The Long Arm of the Drug War

Brian Doherty from Reason explains to the readers of the LA Times the destructive nature of America's domestic and international Drug War. "When drugs are outlawed, only outlaws deal drugs. If it weren't illegal, the sale of narcotics would be no more prone to violence and corruption than the sale of cola or cigarettes." Why isn't everyone a libertarian? This was the first issue that really woke me up to the irrationality and impunity associated with state power as a youth. It is also a...

Had Enough? I Guess Not.

There was a bunch of crap on the Austin, Texas (virtual) ballot Saturday. Proposition 1 proposed that every bit of city business be made public - including all the council's dealings with contractors and lobbyists and the results of investigations by the citizen's police oversite board, whose job it currently is to investigate police crimes and do nothing in secret. The editor of the Texas Monthly sent me some flyer in the mail warning me that Prop 1's enforcement would waste money badly...

It’s Time to Remove Bush and Cheney

They have lied us into war for the benefit of Israel and Iran (and have since lied about and plotted against the latter), killing who knows how many hundreds of thousands of people, turned the two-bit rapist nobody, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, into a new bin Laden, tortured and murdered with impunity [.pdf] at "ghost prisons" (some the actual gulags of the former Soviet Eastern Bloc), asserted the authority to nullify the Bill of Rights due to an undeclared war, kidnapped Americans and turned them...
