People aren’t human if they live across water from here

From the National Review: "In between our last two posts I went to Drudge to see what was happening in the world. The lead story was about a ship disaster in the Red Sea. From the headline picture, it looked like a cruise ship. I therefore assumed that some people very much like the Americans I went cruising with last year were the victims. I went to the news story. A couple of sentences in, I learned that the ship was in fact a ferry, the victims all Egyptians. I lost interest at once, and...

Bob Dreyfuss Explains Iraq

In his new article for TomPaine.com, "Washington's Iraq Blindness," Robert Dreyfuss, author of the book Devil's Game: How the United States Helped Unleash Fundamentalist Islam, continues to demonstrate why he is one of our country's greatest reporters. "The Iraq that exists in President Bush

Lie Detector Test

Here is how to know if George Bush is lying: There is an assertion coming out of his mouth: "This terrorist surveillance program has helped prevent terrorist attacks." Now come the facts: "The National Security Agency's secret domestic spying hasn't nabbed any Al Qaeda agents in the U.S. since the Sept. 11 attacks, FBI Director Robert Mueller told Congress yesterday.Mueller told the Senate Intelligence Committee that his agents get "a number of leads from the NSA," but he made it clear Osama...

Manufacturing Crisis and Leviathan

All libertarians know about Crisis and Leviathan - not just the great book by Robert Higgs, but the simple principle too: when bad things happen government almost always benefits, and further, the "ratchet effect" makes it so that when government power grows it is nearly impossible to get the lost liberty and money back - nevermind the lives, death is pretty much permanent. This principle applies not just to the domestic powers of government over us, but, of course, to the subjects of our...

The Sarah Silverman Program

I was just going through a list of a bunch of hilarious clips of Sarah Silverman and saw this blog entry: "Comedy Central said Monday it has ordered six episodes of a half-hour series starring Sarah Silverman. The show, tentatively titled "The Sarah Silverman Program," is set to premiere in the summer." The clips on that site (not sure if it's her site or a fan thing or what) are great. See especially, "You're Dying."

State of the State 2006

Below is the text of the boy emperor's speech. In italics are the refutations and juvenile commentary I added. Mr. Speaker, Vice President Cheney, members of Congress, members of the Supreme Court and diplomatic corps, distinguished guests and fellow citizens: Today our nation lost a beloved, graceful, courageous woman who called America to its founding ideals and carried on a noble dream. Tonight we are comforted by the hope of a glad reunion with the husband who was taken from her so long...

Cindy Sheehan Arrested

I can't find a link yet, but Keith Oberman just said on MSNBC that Cindy Sheehan has been arrested in Washington DC where she was to be a guest of Rep. Lynn Woolsey at tonight's State of the Union. Update: BradBlog is reporting that CNN says so too. Update 2: The rest of the mass media has now caught up with Antiwar.com. Update 3: The imperial stormtroopers removed her from the Capitol Chamber gallery just before the speech began. Brad Blog has the story. (originally posted at Antiwar.com)
