GALVESTON, TX (KTRK) — Former Houston Astros pitcher Brandon Backe is headed to court for last year’s run-in with Galveston police during a wedding reception.

Backe and 13 wedding guests were arrested at the San Luis Hotel in October 2008. Witnesses say it started when officers tried to prevent the bride’s brother from taking a beer into the hotel bar. When Backe and others stepped in, they say police overreacted, using batons and pepper spray, and tasering the bride’s father.

Nine officers were disciplined for paperwork violations, but none for excessive force.
