World Going Mad

So, I should never let them get me to start arguing politics at the skatepark…

When I was a little kid – 20 years ago – there was this crazy rollerskater that rode at the local park. Dude was insane.

So I guess it shouldn’t be a surprise that the dude is still insane.

He was at the skatepark today. My old friend Matt calls me over and says something to the effect of “we’ve decided the problem is that all the factories went to China.”

Oh boy, here we go…

Turns out, according to rollerskater man — who has really thought this through, no kidding — it should be a crime to do business with anyone in any country that doesn’t have the same environmental and labor laws as we have in the United States. Otherwise it’s just not fair!

I asked whose standard, California or Louisiana? He said one standard. I said, so abolish all separations of power in America and the world, make the U.S. Capitol the government of all earth and wage total trade war against any country that doesn’t submit to our laws?

He said I think pollution and slavery are just fine.

As we head into recession, you are going to see more and more people embracing totalitarian controls over the economy because…

They’re idiots?

Keynesians?

Buchananites?

Don’t know, but I do know this: Things are going to get a lot worse before they get better.
